Punks and Babushkas

Why on earth would anyone think of this idea? Why on earth would anyone think to himself, “I reckon mixing little old Russian ladies and mustachioed men with the Union Jack and belt studs is going to sound super,”? How pleasing that somebody did, because otherwise Gogol Bordello, and by extension “Gypsy-punk” would not exist.

It’s not completely unprecedented; the birth of Celtic punk way back in the 60’s laid ground for experiments with seemingly opposing musical forms (we love you, Flogging Molly).

Anyone who hasn’t been exposed to either of these genres needs to strike out and explore them. There are some videos here; it’s easy. Go ahead, improve your musical tastes.
